MPs call on Royal Mail to make postal services deliver for people across Milton Keynes

Local MPs have signed a letter alongside over a hundred MP colleagues calling for the Royal Mail to take responsibility for continuing postal delays across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire. Writing to Ofcom, MPs have called upon the regulator to do more to hold Royal Mail to account for failing to meet their targets. They also site significant concerns about the Royal Mail’s failure to take responsibility for the delays in mail, nor communicate those challenges to residents or local representatives.

Under its current obligations, Royal Mail is expected to deliver 90% of First-Class mail by the following day and 95% of Second-Class mail within 3 working days. All three city MPs believe this target is being regularly missed across Milton Keynes. Growing numbers of residents have faced postal delays in recent months, with households being left without important documentation including letters from medical providers, information about bills and communications from family for extended periods of time. Chris, Callum, and Emily have been campaigning on the matter since it was raised last year. They have visited sorting offices, organised a petition, and brought the issue to Ministers in Parliament to seek a solution for Milton Keynes. The Milton Keynes MPs are also clear that they stand with hard-working local postal workers who are doing their upmost to deliver mail across the city, even amidst these challenges.

Since I launched my Time to Deliver petition across Whitehouse and Fairfields over a year ago, postal services across our city have gotten worse and the problem has spread further across the city. It is disappointing enough when a birthday card goes astray, but it is frightening for my constituents when important updates from their doctor, their bank, or their utility companies are repeatedly not reaching them. I am proud to join my colleagues across the country in calling for the Royal Mail to take responsibility, admit that there is a problem, and knuckle down to secure a solution for everybody who is counting on their post to turn up on time.
