Chris Curtis MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a tax rebate worth over £11 million for households across Milton Keynes and Buckingham as part of the budget statement today.

In order to help with the payment of winter energy bills, eligible households in council tax bands A through D will receive a £100 payment directly to their bank accounts in January 2027. Taken together, this tax rebate is worth roughly £11.6 million in and around the city, with 36,280 households in Milton Keynes North, 44,860 households in Milton Keynes Central, and 34,400 in Buckingham and Bletchley set to benefit in the new year.

This comes as part of a number of measures designed to give working households breathing space in the short term and ease cost-of-living pressures, including the previously-announced £2 cap on bus fares across England, and the removal of VAT on energy bills which came into force earlier this month.

This budget is about breathing space, and with more than thirty-six thousand households in Milton Keynes North benefitting from this £100 cost-of-living payment, this Government is taking action on the top priorities of my constituents. Less to pay on your bills means more money in your pocket for spending in our communities, including on our local high streets. This is a boost for our local economy, and some additional peace of mind for families across Milton Keynes North. There is more to do, but this is a good start.

Chris Curtis, Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes North.
