MP backs Prime Minister’s national drive to get everyone in for Christmas

The Prime Minister has announced the next steps in his national drive to end rough sleeping: immediate action to offer everyone who needs it a route off the streets by Christmas

Backed by increased funding of £442 million - with over £4.7m for Milton Keynes - new accommodation and support will be rolled out across England this winter, learning from innovative approaches put into place during the pandemic.

Alongside emergency accommodation to end the need for rough sleeping, the programme will offer practical help with housing, health and other needs, helping people build a more stable future.

Milton Keynes has already seen this approach work – bringing together statutory services like the council, GPs, mental health and probation services with the voluntary sector, including UnityMK, Bus Shelter MK, Emmaus and the Salvation Army, to tackle rough sleeping.

One of the driving ambitions behind our new city was the idea that everybody should have somewhere to stay, and Labour in Milton Keynes has always been committed to those values. This announcement will make an enormous difference for the most vulnerable in our society, and the £442 million investment will allow local authorities up and down the country to support those who need it most.

Chris Curtis, Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes North.

This is fantastic news. This will enable us to build on the solid start that we have already made in Milton Keynes. It has always been our commitment to offer shelter to everyone in Milton Keynes, today, over the festive period, and beyond.

Cllr. Donna Fuller, Labour Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Communities.
