STATEMENT: Ceasefire between Israel and Hamas

I am grateful and relieved to see news of a long overdue ceasefire between Israel and Hamas this evening.
Nothing, however, could take away from the amount of pain and bloodshed we have seen over the many months of this terrible conflict.
From the Israelis who faced the biggest massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust on October 7th 2023, to all the innocent Palestinians who lost their lives or found their homes had become a war zone, this has been an utterly intolerable situation. I know people here in Milton Keynes North have lost family members or felt horrified by the scenes they have witnessed.
Despite this news tonight, we cannot now turn our heads away. We must ensure that much-needed aid reaches Gaza, and that all those displaced people are safely able to return home and rebuild after far too long. I will support the Government in pursuing a two-state solution for a safe and secure Israel and sovereign Palestinian state.
